July 27 (7-8pm) - NATIVE GARDENS - David Smith
Have you considered planting a native garden in your own backyard that included many plants found along Fredericton's walking trails?

David Smith was bitten by a bug while listening to a radio commentary in the mid-1970s, The announcer was telling his listeners that, as a province, we were failing on our native plant report card.  That commentary planted a seed which later sprouted when David’s employer downsized, and so he decided to pursue his passion for plants. He earned a diploma through the University of Guelph and opened his own nursery in 1997.
August 10 (7-8pm) - STROKES ENROUTE - Carole Forbes
Creating a piece of art work is not just for those sitting at home, but can be easily accessed by walkers and bikers alike.  Come and enjoy an introductory hour of how to see, draw and paint along our walking trails.
Peter Pearce was, in his professional life, a wildlife toxicologist, which meant that he was actually paid to watch birds. Now he does it for fun, and has been watching Grand Manan birds for nearly fifty years.  From either establishing the club, to running the executive, and offering countless field trips and presentations, Peter Pearce, along with Don Gibson and Jim Goltz, have been much of the driving force of the Fredericton Nature Club (www.fnc.gbnature.com)
That seed led to the germination of the Save a Plant (SAP) program, a nursery with a mission.  Its main objective is to inspire New Brunswick residents and businesses to “grow native” in their own green spaces, thereby ensuring the
SAP has worked with conservation organizations and made public presentations throughout the province, such as “Trail Mix,” to promote the ongoing survival of our native habitat and educate all on the benefits of utilizing native plants in landscaping schemes.  These wildlife-friendly gardens welcome wildlife into our backyards and encourage all Canadians to look to their own gardens to reduce the need for pesticides and help conserve wildlife habitat.  They also foster an appreciation for the natural world for those individuals and communities involved.  For more information, go to: www.cwf-fcf.org/en/what-we-do/habitat/gardening-gab/feature-nurseries/save-a-plant-nursery.htm
survival of these important plants. Over the years, SAP, which consists of David, a native of Fredericton, and his wife Connie, has assisted school children in creating native wildflower gardens and community display gardens, such as the one near the Trail Visitor Centre.
exhibitions and galleries across North America, as well as found in many private collections throughout the world.
Carole enjoys the challenge of working with ink, watercolour and inktense pencils, as well as watercolour and acrylic paints. The ink allows her to express the detail, she has become known for and the watercolour creates a softness to the painting.  Carole personally developed a unique method of drawing and painting that is portable and affordable to people of all walks of life.  This method she now teaches in classes and workshops, including an evening at “Trail Mix.”   During the summer months Carole can be found at Boyce Farmer’s Market and at the Casemates in the City’s Historic Garrison District.  More information: www.caroleforbes.com
"Access Your Trails" is to celebrate the many multi-users of Fredericton's trail system, including the Moms with their carriages to Seniors learning the latest fitness craze of nordic walking to the Youth today and their in-line skating and the Disabled community.
